Summer activities

St Gervais has surprisingly warm and sunny summers. There is a much greater variety of activities available in the summer... taking advantage of the surrounding mountains, lakes and fast flowing rivers. If you prefer to be less active you can just enjoying the spectacular setting - and there is plenty to occupy the children too.

Suggested activities are listed below:


Hiking in St GervaisThis spectacular setting cannot be beaten for variety and beauty of hiking trails. A huge network of tracks cross the mountains, which can be combined with use of the lift network, or indeed the tram, to help get around.. or simply up! The tourist office and local bookshops will have maps and guidebooks, and there are colour coded signs along the main trails to keep you on track.

Signed footpaths in St GervaisThe Baroque Footpath (Le Sentier du Baroque)
20 kilometers long running from Combloux to Les Contamines/Notre Dame de la Gorge. Named for the Baroque architecture encountered along it's route. Itinerary from the Tourist Office. Also suitable for cycling along.

The Val Montjoie Footpath (Le Sentier du Val Montjoie)
This path leads you from Le Fayet to Les Contamines and Notre Dame de La Gorge following the River Bonnant. The trail offers varied scenery: waterfalls and impressive gorges, suspended footbridges, quiet prairies, forests, farms and traditional villages. There is also a magnificent view of the Mont Blanc, Aiguille de Bionnassay and Les Dômes de Miage.

Mountain biking

Cycling in St GervaisYou could not ask for a more ideal location for bike rides - and there is something for all levels. There is a whole lift-linked route known as the Diamant Vert (Green Diamond) , incorporarting 11 lifts and 90km of mostly downhill marked trails. The lift directly below our accommodation is part of this network.

There are also other waymarked trails such as the Val Montjoie Trail, which runs between Les Contamines and Saint Gervais.

Swimming lake near St GervaisSt Gervais has an open air swimming pool at the Sports Centre and a covered one next to the Parc Thermal.

There are numerous mountain lakes, including some with man made bathing areas. The picture shows the beautiful Lake Passy, just 10 minutes down the mountain from St Gervais. Others nearby include: Ecological swimming lake in Combloux and Le Pontet bathing lake, Les Contamines

Summer Luge

Summer Luge near Megeve

This is great fun for young and old! You go up in a lift normally used for skiing in the winter... but come down the slope on a "summer luge", using the brake to control your speed if you want! There are two very close by:

Megeve Summer Luge - at the top of the Jaillets ski lift, a few minutes drive from the apartment. There is also one in Chamonix at the Planards fun area.


Via Ferrata

Via FerrataThis activity needs a head for heights, but opens up the mountains to non-climbers. In effect it involves rock climbing but with metal ladders and steel cables keeping you secure - meaning anyone can have a go. Instruction and guiding is available at locations an easy drive from St Gervais. Ask at the Tourist Office, or contact one of the mountain guide organisation mentioned above.



Golf course in MegeveThe area is well served by golf courses and facilities. Of particular note are:
- Megeve - Golf Club du Mont Arbois - 18 hole course
- Chamonix - 18 hole course

There is also a driving range in Les Contamines, and a "Mini Golf" at the St Gervais Sports Club.


"Parcours" Adventures

Parcours adventure in St Gervais

This is a great fun activity for the whole family. Climb and swing your way through the treetops - whilst securely attached to a safety wire all the way round - it's a very popular activity in France, and there are plenty of locations nearby.

The closest is the Parcours Aventure at the Parc Thermal.

Others a short distance away, including:

Acrobatic Island in Les Contamines, with 4 courses for different ages and daring!

Arbre Aventure in Les Houches - three courses - once standard course, once specifically for children and one entirely of "zip-wires".

Parcours Aventure Chamonix, with a main course for adults and children over 7, and a "mini-Foret" for children from 3 years. Once finished you can descend by the Summer Luge for free if you wish!


Parc de MerletParc de Merlet in Les Houches is a 20 hectare park with alpine animals free to roam in their natural environment.

There are plenty of other local natural sites of interest, including gorges (the Gorges de la Diosaz at Servoz), waterfalls etc - info from the tourist office.



Parapenting in St GervaisThis is certainly the best way to take in the views, getting a real adrenaline rush at the same time! Both the organisations below will cater for complete novices (i.e. sharing a paraglider with an instructor) or the more experienced.
